Remember Perler Beads? I don’t even know if they make them anymore…This is my childhood set (can’t you tell by the awesome 70’s Tupperware the beads are in?)

Basically, you put the beads on these little spiky trays, cover them with parchment paper and iron on the linen setting until they start to look a little melty. Never mind the toxic plastic fumes…it’s part of the fun.

After they cool you peel them off and voila!, you have a weird little plastic thing that got you high and serves no purpose.

Just kidding. The kids think they are awesome. One has been deemed a coaster and the others got magnets on the back for the fridge.

I used to play with this for hours. Mostly because I was a weird only child with an imaginary pet flea…so I had quite a bit of time to myself.

I thought it would be fun to make a little something with the kids that they could take to preschool for their Valentine’s Day party. Bujnik made these a few months ago with a fish tray and then I saw the heart version on Pinterest.

Crayon Heart Tutorial:

Chop up old/broken crayons (to be safe make sure your toddler does all the chopping)

Fill silicone ice tray (I got mine at Ikea)

Place on foil lined cookie sheet (just for the sake of an easy clean-up)

Put in 230 degree oven for about twenty minutes or whenever all the chunks are melted

Wait until cooled completely to pop out.
